The Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) at Advocate Children’s Hospital are busy tertiary medical-surgical ICUs, which provide care to critically ill infants, children, and young adults. We have a total of 43 PICU beds across our two campuses, Park Ridge and Oak Lawn. The patients come from a wide referral base spanning the greater Chicago area with the majority coming either through the Pediatric Emergency Departments at both campuses, or via the Advocate Children's Transport Team.
Our PICUs see a wide range of disease pathology including medical, general surgical, trauma, neurosurgical, orthopedic, ENT, and plastic surgery diagnoses. Our PICUs are staffed 24/7 with in-house board certified Pediatric Critical Care physicians and supported by a full range of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists enabling us to provide a wide range of therapeutic and diagnostic modalities including High Frequency Oscillator Ventilation, ECMO, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies, Interventional Radiology and high quality non invasive surgery. In addition, Advocate Children's Hospital is one of the top cardiac surgical hospitals in the country, and has a separate 15 bed Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
We are seeking a full-time or part-time pediatric ICU hospitalist interested in honing their critical care skills and taking care of pediatric patients hospitalized in an intensive care setting. The pediatric hospitalist will work collaboratively with the pediatric intensive care staff and multidisciplinary team to serve the growing needs of the regional pediatric population in the surrounding Chicago area to deliver world class pediatric care.
The PICU hospitalist program includes on the job training with understanding basic principles of critical care medicine, procedure skills training, and understanding of rationale for therapeutic interventions. Candidates should be BE/BC pediatricians. Responsibilities include clinical patient care in coordination with the in-house pediatric intensivists. In addition, both campuses have pediatric residency programs and the PR campus also has a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program. PICU Hospitalists will also be required to attend monthly division meetings. There will be opportunities for scholarly activity as well, including participating in medical student / resident lecture series, attending weekly department case presentations, and joining various ongoing research projects. Competitive salary is based on experience and level of training.
