Job Description
Lead one of the oldest and most respected Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowships in the country. The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is seeking a DO or MD fellowship-trained sports medicine physician as Program Director.

Your leadership will create an environment of academic rigor and professional growth, where fellows can thrive and develop into exceptional sports medicine physicians. Collaborating closely with our esteemed faculty, you'll provide comprehensive care to athletes of all levels, ranging from weekend warriors to elite competitors.
 
The Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship will work to accomplish the following objectives:
  • Direct the curriculum for the fellowship program, including musculoskeletal ultrasound and cardiopulmonary exercise testing
  • Serve as a role model for clinical excellence and professionalism in sports and exercise medicine
  • Serve as a primary mentor for sports medicine fellows to support their professional growth and career development
  • Support fellow involvement in sports coverage
  • Provide coverage (including nights, weekends, and holidays) for sporting events
  • Identify and implement opportunities for growth of the fellowship program
  • Serve as an ad hoc mentor for residents and medical students interested in sports medicine
  • Facilitate the education of medical students and residents interested in sports medicine, including collaboration with other residency and fellowship programs both within and outside Advocate Health
  • Promote and facilitate scholarly activity generated from the fellowship including original and collaborative research, publications, poster presentations, and lectures
  • Direct the recruitment of incoming fellows, including outreach to fellow candidates, reviewing candidate applications, organizing candidate interviews, developing the candidate rank list, and facilitating the fellows’ transition to the fellowship program
  • Remain up to date with ACGME guidelines and regulations
  • Represent the program in sports medicine meetings and conferences
 
Training and/or experience required 
  • Subspecialty certification / CAQ in sports medicine
  • Primary board certification in either Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Experience with physician training programs in sports medicine
  • Passion for medical education, mentorship, and professional development
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with a diverse team of administrators and medical professionals
  • Passion for exercise medicine 
  • Significant experience in VO2max / cardiopulmonary exercise testing and exercise-induced asthma testing
  • Significant experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided procedures
  • Experience in biomechanics analysis using Vicon Motion Capture or similar systems
  • Passion for research and scholarly activity
  • Strong commitment to health equity and working with disadvantaged/marginalized populations 
  • Growth mindset with ability and interest in expanding or developing new educational initiatives
