Job Description
Advocate Aurora Medical Group and Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital is seeking a board certified/board eligible surgeon to pursue a one year (with optional two year extension) advanced fellowship in cardiac surgery. The fellowship is designed to focus on advanced heart surgery with techniques and procedures not traditionally taught in most residency programs.

Candidates must be well-trained in general cardiac surgery with recent experience and a strong desire to pursue an additional year learning advanced skills.

Areas of focus include:
  • Minimally invasive mitral/aortic/tricuspid valve repair/replacement
  • Trans catheter therapeutics for the aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves,
  • Advanced aortic surgery including arch work with circulatory arrest, TEVAR and valve sparing root replacement/aortic valve repair
  • Advanced heart failure surgery including LVAD insertion and heart transplantation
  • Robust program in total arterial revascularization/off pump coronary artery bypass grafting and surgical treatment of arrythmias
The goals of the fellowship are to successfully emerge from the program fully ready to perform these more advanced surgeries and lead a focused area for a practice. There is an expectation for academic productivity with the fellow asked to present original research at least one conference during the year with possible publication.

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is a 938-bed STS 3 star quaternary care teaching hospital where we perform roughly 2,000 pump and pump standby cases annually. We are the region's largest provider of complex cardiothoracic surgery with a robust practice in structural heart, aortic surgery, and heart failure. The program typically performs 30-50 heart transplants per year, and 600+ trans catheter valve replacements.

Eligible candidates must have a US residency or fellowship or foreign equivalent, US board eligible/certified and eligible for Wisconsin state medical license.

Salary: $225,000 plus benefits
