Advocate Health, the third-largest nonprofit integrated health system in the country is seeking Anesthesia Critical Care physician to join our team at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI.
Position highlights
- Full-time, split position - 50% time in critical care, 50% time in anesthesia
- Critical Care:
- 30-bed CVICU
- Largest cardiac surgical program in Wisconsin
- Seven 12-hour shifts per month
- Post-op cardiac surgery including CABG, off-pump CAB, valve surgery, aortic surgery, and heart transplantation
- Advanced heart failure and mechanical circulatory support devices
- Thoracic surgery
- Vascular surgery
- ECMO (VV and VA)
- Hourly salary range is $234.07 - $292.58
- General Anesthesia:
- Ninety-five day shifts and 20 late shifts (no overnights and no weekends)
- Outstanding variety and the full breadth of cases from routine to complex. No OB, trauma or peds are required for anesthesia.
- Established cardiac and abdominal transplant programs
- Opportunity to do some of your own cases with some medical direction of lower risk cases
- Some cases may be done at our new surgery center, just minutes from the hospital

Training and/or experience required
- Prior clinical experience or training with mechanical circulatory devices such as VA/VV ECMO, LVAD, Impella, IABP.
- Prior clinical experience or training in the management of post-op Cardiac surgical patients, preferably including heart transplant patients.
- Prior training and experience with transthoracic echocardiography. TEE training or experience is desirable.
- Residency training in Anesthesia required and Cardiac Anesthesia is desirable
- Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine is required.
- Board-eligibility or board-certification in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, and Advanced Peri-operative Transesophageal Echocardiography (desirable)

About Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center
Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is a university-affiliated training program for residents and fellows in select medical, surgical, and radiology specialties. We are a clinical site for anesthesia and medical critical care fellows.
The tertiary critical care practice supports the Milwaukee-based TRIUMPH program for the University of Wisconsin medical students. The Aurora Critical Care Service (ACCS) is integrated into the residency training programs and is engaged in training medical and anesthesia critical care fellows. Several faculty have externally-funded research and actively contribute to the peer-reviewed literature.
